three mudras for self-care

In a world filled with too much judgement and criticism it can be very hard to find a place of self-acceptance. Mediation is a very powerful tool for finding inner-peace.  Next time you meditate try adding one of these beautiful mudras  or try simply sitting with them as you tune into their effect on your breath and energy.

They can be incredibly powerful tools in Yoga Therapy for promoting self-care, supporting a sankalpa, providing a focal point for meditation and opening energy blockages. When they are practiced regularly you can see the seeds of emotional healing grow.

Vajra mudra ~ to support self-empowerment

Hold the hands at your solar plexus with the middle fingers connected and pointing forward, index fingers and thumbs gently connected, the ring and pinky finger curled towards the palm. Vajna mudra is energizing and enlivens the Third Chakra - Manipura. While holding this mudra visualize a center of energy at the solar plexus. Repeat a mantra or sankalpa that will support your own self-empowerment.

Anamika mudra ~ to support self-healing

Hold the palms at the solar plexus with ring fingers gently connected. Anamika mudra is calming, it draws energy down supporting and balancing the Second Chakra - Svadhisthana. While holding this mudra visualize energy flowing through the belly and pelvis. Repeat a mantra or sankalpa that will support your own self-healing and inner-peace.

Svadhisthana mudra ~ to support self nourishment

The left hand gently caresses the belly while the right hand is turned up and out - ready to receive what the universe has to offer. Svadhisthana mudra is calming and balances and overactive Second Chakra- Svadhisthana.  While holding this mudra visualize energy that will open and calm the belly and pelvis. Repeat a mantra or sankalpa that will encourage you to draw on your inner wisdom and healing, rely less on external stimulation and promote self-love.

If you are interested in reading more about Mudra's I highly recommend Joseph and Lilian Le Page's book Mudras for Healing and Transformation. Its incredibly in-depth and beautifully presented.
